Expanding Capabilities: Beyond Emergency Texting

Samsung's Exynos Modem 5410, a key component of the Galaxy S26, supports three different satellite network types: LTE DTC, NB IoT NTN, and NR NTN. While LTE DTC is designed for voice calls, a significant upgrade from emergency texting, NB IoT NTN is intended for lighter tasks like location sharing and simple text transmission, even in areas far from towers.

A Layered Fallback System

If these capabilities are integrated into the Galaxy S26, the satellite connectivity could function as a layered fallback system. Simple texts and location sharing would form the basic layer, voice calling would serve as a middle step, and high-quality communication would be the top tier.

Premium Modem, Not a Niche Add-On

Samsung has positioned the Exynos Modem 5410 as a premium modem, boasting features such as support for 5G NR dual connectivity and peak download throughput up to 14.79Gbps. The chip is also designed for efficiency and security, with a 4nm EUV process for lower standby power consumption and a security processor to protect sensitive data.

These include which Galaxy models will feature the modem, whether satellite voice calling will be enabled from day one, and where the service will be available.
