India's Sindhu and Sen Shine in Indonesia Masters, Srikanth and Kharb Fall Short

India's Badminton Stars Make Waves at Indonesia Masters

The Indonesia Masters Super 500 tournament, held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, witnessed a series of exciting matches involving India's top badminton players. The event, which took place on January 21, 2026, saw several Indian shuttlers making their mark, with PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen progressing to the quarter-finals, while Kidambi Srikanth and Anmol Kharb exited the competition.

Sindhu and Sen Advance to Quarter-finals

In a significant milestone for Sindhu, she secured her 500th career win in singles by defeating Denmark's Line Kjaersfeldt. Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen, in his first-ever encounter against Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong, demonstrated his dominance with a straight-games win.

Srikanth and Kharb's Early Exits

Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth and the rising star Anmol Kharb could not replicate the same success. Srikanth faced a straight-sets defeat at the hands of fourth-seeded Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei, while Kharb, who had gained fame at the Badminton Asia Team Championships two years ago, was undone by unforced errors against Japan's Nozomi Okuhara.

North East Connection

Among the players, Manipur's Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun, representing Tripura, were the representatives from the North East region. Although they put up a good fight against the third-seeded Malaysian pair, they eventually fell short.

Looking Ahead

With Sindhu and Sen advancing to the quarter-finals, Indian badminton fans have much to look forward to in the coming days. The tournament offers an opportunity for our players to showcase their skills against some of the world's best and potentially secure a podium finish.
