Google Enhances Navigation on Android with Map Layers in Find Hub
In a move that aims to improve user experience, Google has rolled out support for map layers on Android devices through its Find Hub application. This quality-of-life improvement, although seemingly minor, can significantly aid in locating lost devices.
New Map Layers for Better Navigation
The update introduces a floating action button (FAB) that allows users to switch between map types. The options include the default mode, satellite view, terrain view, and traffic information, similar to Google Maps. These options can be particularly useful when navigating to a misplaced device.
Accessing Map Layers
The map layer options can be accessed from the main map (Devices or People) but not once a specific device has been selected. This feature is part of version 3.1.485-2 of Find Hub for Android and is being rolled out via the Play Store.
Implications for North East India and Beyond
This update holds significance for users across India, including the North East region. The ability to switch map types can be beneficial in various scenarios, such as navigating through hilly terrains common in the North East. Moreover, the traffic layer can help users in densely populated urban areas to avoid congested routes.
Looking Ahead
While the update is currently being rolled out, there's a server-side component that is not yet fully available. As more users gain access to this feature, it is expected to streamline the process of finding lost devices, making everyday life a little easier.
