Analysis: Google Meet for Android gets more Material 3 Expressive

Google Meet Adopts Material 3: Implications for North East India

Google Meet Adopts Material 3: A New Look for Video Calling

Revamping User Interface

Google Meet, the popular video conferencing platform, is undergoing a significant change in its user interface. The app is adopting more Material 3 Expressive design elements, similar to other Google Workspace services. This update includes the introduction of a search app bar, replacing the previous text field layout.

  • The search app bar provides a cleaner look, with the hamburger menu and profile switcher moved outside the search container.
  • The Code button for manually entering meeting IDs remains in the search app bar, now curving into the right edge of the container.

Rolling Out Across Devices

The update is being rolled out with a server-side update, with version 341 widely available as of now. This change follows the adoption of Material 3 Expressive design elements in the app's homepage, pre-calling screen, and in-call interface last year.

Google Meet and Duo Legacy: A Changing Landscape

In a related development, Google Meet is set to replace Duo Legacy calling, a move that was initially scheduled for September 2025 but has been postponed. This update means that most Google Workspace apps, including Chat, Docs, Drive, Gmail, Keep, Sheets, and Slides, will now use the search app bar, fostering a consistent visual family resemblance among these services.

The exceptions to this trend are Google Calendar, which retains its current design, and Google Voice, which still uses Material You.

Relevance for North East India and Beyond

For users in North East India and across India, these updates signify a more seamless and consistent user experience across Google Workspace apps. As video conferencing continues to be a crucial tool for both personal and professional interactions, these design changes aim to make Google Meet more user-friendly and visually appealing.

Looking Forward

As Google continues to refine and update its services, we can expect more changes that aim to improve user experience and foster consistency across its platform. These updates underscore Google's commitment to providing innovative and user-friendly solutions in the digital age.
